Synopsis:
Karen, a young single mother in border town Newry, is numbed by routine and her mundane existence as a supermarket shelf stalker. Amusement arcade slot machines have become her secret thrill and addiction. Her eight year old daughter Laura dreams of Christmas presents and sunny exotic family holidays, adding further pressure to Karens struggle to cope. As Karen’s close relationships begin to fracture, her decisions become more irrational. With Christmas looming, a desperate hope for a big win sees her life spiral out of control.
Director:
Cathy Brady began her studies in Visual Arts Practice at IADT, before moving on to study and graduate top of her class with a First Class Honours at the National Film School at IADT 2010. During her studies Cathy set up her own production and creative PR company – CherryRED Pictures LTD. During this time, she has directed and produced several shorts, promos and EPK’s, working with Spyglass Entertainment, LA; Universal Pictures, Ecosse, Element Pictures, Samson Films, RTÉ and Grand Pictures. Cathy was also the first director to be supported by the Irish Film Board and Element Distribution, to create a series of Webisodes to be marketed with the release of a feature film – ‘Wide Open Spaces’. Cathy was awarded the ‘Claire Lynch Award’ for first time Irish director at the Cork Film Festival 2010 for “Small Change”.
