Ed

by Justin Chinn, University of Southern California, 35 mm, 13 min. and 15 seconds

Ed is obsessed with deadly flu viruses and still lives with his mother. During his free time, he gives lectures at the local branch library, warning vagrants and senior citizens that it’s only a matter of time before a killer plague will wipe out mankind. During one such lecture, he meets an odd librarian, Nina, whose knowledge of accidental-death-related trivia has Ed smitten. Ed manages to ask Nina out for pizza, but during their date he becomes convinced that a flu epidemic is invading their pizzeria. Ed’s increased agitation prompts a self-repsecting Nina to leave without him. Ed quickly realizes it’s better to lay a germs-and-all kiss on his date than to worry about impending doom.
